Match Report
FC United made it a 12 league victories out of 12 with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Bacup Borough in front of 3,268 fans who provided another energetic atmosphere at Gigg Lane.

Three second half goals were converted out of a hatful of chances and although the United faithful had to wait, the game never really looked in any doubt, as the visitors offered very little going forward and rarely troubled United keeper Sam Ashton.

Despite numerous chances, as well as having a goal disallowed for offside, the Reds couldn’t break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes with Will Ahern and Rory Patterson both guilty of missing good opportunities.

The Reds seemed to have their shooting boots on after the interval though and it took just seven minutes of the restart for the ball to find its way into the back of Borough’s net.

Josh Howard made a good run down the left wing and pulled the ball back across goal for Stuart Rudd. Rudd’s shot took a wicked deflection off a hapless defender Simon Myrescough and looped up over Borough ’keeper.

As they often do, Margy’s men causied the opposition some real problems down the flanks with Alex Mortimer, Maty Taylor, Rhodri Giggs and Howard all linking up well and enjoying the space afforded to them.

It was during one of Mortimer’s forages down the left wing that United won a free kick which led to the second goal. As Mortimer was dusting himself off, Howard whipped a cross in and who else but Rudd was there to head the ball home.

Just over 10 minutes later and 10 minutes before the end, it was another set piece that created the final goal. Mortimer curled a corner in and Liam Coyne won the ball in the six yard box before smashing the ball home.

Coyne obviously enjoyed scoring his first competitive goal for the club because the former Leigh RMI centre back wasted no time in rushing over to the Manchester Road End to share several seconds of screaming with the fans.

A special mention has to go to Borough’s ’keeper Tommy Allen who thoroughly enjoyed keeping the MRE entertained throughout the second half with his rather ’robust’ figure.

Amply covered Allen became the latest opposition ⦥uro;?keeper to share some banter with the fans including pretending to tuck in to a toy hamburger that was thrown towards him late on in the game.

United now have the opportunity to make this the best ever start to a North West Counties Division One campaign if they can overcome Salford away at the Willows on Tuesday night.
